Assedo led a four-phase regional engagement process to engage with various communities to learn about biking needs and priorities and collect public comment on the draft BBR plan. The phases included a pre-outreach and engagement phase, a listening phase, a presenting phase, and a releasing phase. To successfully reach across the Baltimore region, Assedo used traditional and innovative communication approaches. Some approaches included creating ‘public meeting in a box’ kits for local jurisdictions and committee members to collect feedback, brief ‘handlebar interviews’ with bicyclists, digital tools such as surveys, Story Maps, and Public Input, as well as flyers and social media content. Throughout the process, Assedo worked with agencies, local community groups, and neighbors we met on the street to understand how and why people use (or do not use) existing bike infrastructure to inform bike investments over the next decade.
